The Ambassadors for C.H.A.N.G.E. program requires you to engage in the political process through events, panels, discussions, and weekly activities. Having these guideposts allows you to become more familiar with how the system works and what it takes to get your voice heard. You will learn how to identify your representatives and understand what laws are passed at what levels—local, state, and federal.
Women fought incredibly hard (some were even imprisoned) to legalize your right to vote! It wasn’t until the 1970s that a woman could have a credit card without her husband’s permission or gain access to legal protection for their right to determine when or if to carry a pregnancy. That was not that long ago. This is why we need Women Ambassadors for C.H.A.N.G.E.!
Today, we are losing some of those legal protections. In some cases, we are in danger of being arrested for making choices in our best interest. Other things such as safety in public spaces, a living wage, access to clean food and water, and the climate crisis play a role in our outlook for our futures. So many of these daily realities are created by elected officials who DO NOT REPRESENT YOU! How did they get in that position? Well, people voted for them. The electoral process in our country is not just for people over 60, and yet they are the majority of the voters. If you, your friends, and their friends all came out to let your voices be heard by voting in elections, we would see a very different government today. If the decisions you make on who you vote for have more to do with issues than what political party your parents belong to, then you determine your own future.
Ambassadors will participate in the program for a minimum of 10 hours a month. Every week, you will have a list of possible ways that you can get your hours in. It might be wearing a campaign T-shirt or one that is about a specific cause you support, to a public event. You might choose to help at a political event or fundraiser. Perhaps you would be interested in going door to door to talk about a candidate in this election cycle or make calls with other friends. How about getting friends, neighbors, and family out to vote? Of course, you will get training and support for all of these things. We plan to have a panel discussion for the Ambassadors with experts in climate change, women’s health, immigration, and HOW YOUR GOVERNMENT WORKS. All this while making new friends, creating networks, and establishing relationships to last a lifetime as you band together for CHANGE!
